Gran Turismo

Image
I couldn’t breathe for most of the two hours. But it was exciting a ride as we learnt how a gamer made his way to real life racing in the movie Gran Turismo based on real life story. My favourite Quote from the show ๐ŸŽ️That crash is not gonna define who you are. How you respond to it … will. ๐ŸŽ️ Interestingly, this is one of the techniques I learnt in the NLP course I took many years back. A good reminder. A good movie to watch for inspiration in grit and going against the odds when no one (not even your family) believes in you. #motivation   #grit   #granturismo   #nlp   #personaldevelopment   #jenelim

Best Blaze

Image
๐Ÿ”ฅThey say that the best blaze burns brightest when circumstances are at their worst. ๐Ÿ”ฅ- Howl’s Moving Castle Chanced into this when helping my kid to pick his favourite quote for his book review. Think it’s a good encouragement to all who might be going through difficult circumstances now. ๐Ÿ”ฅTo look on the bright side (pun intended), it’s only during tough times when we are going through the crucible where we get a chance to test our mettle and shine bright. Good Morning

Image
“Good morning!”  “Good morning!”  “Good morning!”  “Good morning!”  “Good morning!”  This bus driver greeted everyone who boarded the bus yesterday. I greeted back as it was quite unusual and I wanted to reciprocate. Interestingly 90% of the people didn’t. Perhaps they were not used to it or they couldn’t respond fast enough as it wasn’t usual. Despite the low response rate, he didn’t stop. He continued to greet everyone who boarded. There were so many people and so many didn’t respond. But he was so persistent. I wonder what’s his motivation? Whilst this was a fleeting incident, it got me thinking that this type of grit and spirit is pretty rare. And it’s this kind of persistence we should aspire to have in our lives.  Happy Sunday everyone. Photo: By Me

How to be energised and motivated ?

Image
“How are you so energised and motivated every day?” I was asked by a colleague.  Well, I think it’s because my Why is very clear. The work we do is actually very meaningful. When we launch new data products and services, we are actually helping companies find business, obtain funding from lenders, and get paid on time. We are also helping to power the business ecosystem by enabling trust amongst different entities using local and international data as well.  As Friedrich Nietzsche says, “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”  Hence, no matter how tough the going gets, I will find a way as my Why is clear.  Photo: By me #motivation #purpose #energise #grit  #jenelim #personaldevelopment #business #data #financialinclusion

Path to profit paced with layoffs and single-ply toilet paper

“Business-class flights were banned; everyone would fly economy, no matter how far. Daily meal expenses were capped at US$30, hotels at US$150 a night. Snacks disappeared from offices. Sea replaced the local luxury tea brand TWG with Lipton. In at least some restrooms, two-ply toilet paper gave way to one-ply.” “We cared about every single dollar, every single cent,” Li said at his office in Singapore, his first interview in more than two years. “You can have a big dream and a big ambition, but what if you cannot survive? You always have this kind of noise back in your mind saying we may be running out of money.” “Li’s shock treatment paid off. In March, Sea reported the first quarterly profit in its 14-year history, US$427 million in Gaap-sanctioned net income. Its stock soared 22 per cent. Last week, it said it would hand out 5 per cent raises to most staff. Sea has now more than doubled its market value since November.” Sea’s path to profit was paved with layoffs and single-ply toil...
