What do you shy away from? Do you shy away from trying new things, socialising, public speaking, doing health checkups or exercising? And how to overcome the inertia of doing these things that you tend to shy away from ? For me, I usually practise 3 simple steps : 1️⃣ Figure out your why - identify your purpose and understand why you have to do something about it. 2️⃣ Take the first step - to avoid procrastination, do not plan it too far away and don’t think too much - just eat the frog. Start with the hardest thing and get it out of the way. As the Nike slogan goes, “just do it”. 3️⃣ Making it fun - find a friend/ community to do it together, try it in an interesting setting or gamify it. Yesterday, I chatted with a stranger when sharing a table. She was an ex JC teacher teaching English and Literature but has now been retired in the past 13 years. 🛝She shared with me how she always taught her students to make sure they have a decent command of English and Maths (logical thinking), but need not mug all the way and spend all their time studying. 🛝What’s also important is to go out there and play, learn how to get along and have a network. And I think her tips work for adults at the workplace too. In my early work years, I worked very hard but forgot to have a life.
